In 1971, Egil ´´Bud´´ Krogh was summoned to a closed-door meeting by John Ehrlichman, his mentor and key confidant of President Richard Nixon, in a secluded office in the Western White House. Krogh thought he was walking into a meeting to discuss the drug control program launched on his most recent trip to South Vietnam. Instead, he was handed a file and the responsibility for the SIU, Special Investigations Unit, later to become notorious as ´´The Plumbers.´´ The unit was to investigate the leaks of top-secret government documents, particularly the Pentagon Papers, to the press. The president considered this task critical to national security. Nixon said he wanted the unit headed up by a ´´real son of a bitch.´´ He got the studious, zealous, and loyal-to-a-fault Bud Krogh instead. In that instant, Krogh was handed the job that would lead to one of the most famous conspiracies in presidential history and the demise of the Nixon administration. Integrity is Krogh´s memoir of his experiences - of what really went on behind closed doors, of how a good man can lose his moral compass, of how exercising power without integrity can destroy a life. It also tells the moving story of how he turned his life back around. For anyone interested in the ethical challenges of leadership, or of professional life, Integrity is thought-provoking and inspiring to listen to. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Barry Bernson. ´´This novel breaks brilliant. It´s hard to tell what´s the best part of The Killing Lessons: the sweaty-palm plot that races along like a squad car on a high-speed pursuit, the breathtaking depictions of the characters, good and bad, or author Black´s inimitable style. My vote? All three.´´ – Jeffery Deaver, New York Times bestselling author of The Skin Collector and Solitude Creek In their isolated country house, a mother and her two children prepare to wait out a blinding snowstorm. Two violent predators walk through the door. Nothing will ever be the same. When the two strangers turn up at Rowena Cooper´s isolated Colorado farmhouse, she knows instantly that it´s the end of everything. For the two haunted and driven men, on the other hand, it´s just another stop on a long and bloody journey. And they still have many miles to go, and victims to sacrifice, before their work is done. For San Francisco homicide detective Valerie Hart, their trail of victims-women abducted, tortured and left with a seemingly random series of objects inside them-has brought her from obsession to the edge of physical and psychological destruction. And she´s losing hope of making a breakthrough before that happens. But the murders at the Cooper farmhouse didn´t quite go according to plan. There was a survivor, Rowena´s ten-year-old daughter Nell, who now holds the key to the killings. Injured, half-frozen, terrified, Nell has only one place to go. And that place could be even more dangerous than what she´s running from. In this extraordinary, pulse-pounding debut, Saul Black takes us deep into the mind of a psychopath, and into the troubled heart of the woman determined to stop him. A funny and intimate look at fatherhood from the actor and writer/director of The Boss and Tammy that combines stories about his own larger-than-life dad and how his experiences raising two daughters with his wife, Melissa McCarthy, are shaped by his own childhood. Though he´s best known for his appearances in the movie Enough Said, as well as his hilarious role as Air Marshall Jon in Bridesmaids, Ben Falcone isn´t a big-shot movie star director at home. There, he´s just Dad. In this winning collection of stories, Ben shares his funny and poignant adventures as the husband of Melissa McCarthy and the father of their two young daughters. He also shares tales from his own childhood in Southern Illinois and life with his father - an outspoken, brilliant, but unconventional man with a big heart and a somewhat casual approach to employment named Steve Falcone. Ben is just an ordinary dad who has his share of fights with other parents blocking his view with their expensive electronic devices at school performances. Navigating the complicated role of being the only male in a house full of women, he finds himself growing more and more concerned as he sounds more and more like his dad. While Steve Falcone may not have been the briefcase and gray flannel suit type, he taught Ben priceless lessons about what matters most in life. A supportive, creative, and downright funny dad, Steve made sure his sons´ lives were never dull - a sense of adventure that carries through this warm, sometimes hilarious, and poignant memoir. Foreword read by Melissa McCarthy and featuring the voices of Stephen, Margaret, and Flynn Falcone. 1. Language: English. If you took a census within any Sunday Service or Church meeting, at least 80% of the congregants would profess the desire to become a matured believer for Christ. But if you press the group to take their desire into practical day to day applications, the number of willing participants will significantly decline. It begs the point that when most people talk about maturity they mean: ´´I will, as long as it does not interfere with my work´´. ´´I will, as long as I don´t have to be told what to do by someone else´´. ´´I will, as long as I can simply read and know the Bible in my house or on my own´´. The list is endless! Thank God we have the remnants that are willing to go beyond their personal comfort zones to reach the stage where they are more usable by God. Right now four Scriptures flow into my mind. 2 Timothy 2:20: ´´In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 2 Timothy 2:21: ´´Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.´´ This scripture places the responsibility of being useful to God firmly in the lap of the believer. Of course God is there to help you by His Spirit but you must be committed to playing your part, otherwise the usefulness (not the salvation) of that believer is limited and maturity will be a dream. 1.
