Factors Influencing School-Based-Teacher-Evalua...

This book analyses school-based-teacher-evaluation practice in secondary schools in Western Kenya. Teachers are evaluated by management and peers through class observation during instruction and analysis of their professional tools such as schemes of work, lesson guides, records of work covered, lesson notes, learners exercise books and their portfolios. In this context, the author argues that other than analysis of professional tools, the other modes of teacher evaluation are hardly conducted. Therefore, it is difficult to establish if there is proper curriculum implementation. Consequently, she recommends that head-teachers should enforce observation of teachers during instruction and the government should ensure that all schools are adequately staffed with teachers. This book is a must-read for teachers, teacher educators, education policy makers and student teachers in Kenya and beyond.

Investing in the Age of Democracy

This book offers a structured, deductive approach to Austrian investing, beginning with an analysis of the current investing paradigm. There are five economic concepts on which the Austrian School of Economics has a unique view: Entrepreneurship, Class Probability, Capital, the Interest Rate, and Institutions. This book explains, lesson by lesson, how each of theseshapes our thinking about investing. If we follow them through their logical consequences, they leave us with a unique approach to investing. Except for the theory of probability, there has not been a comprehensive analysis of the linkages between these concepts, when it comes to investing. Although they would have been obvious to the average investor before the age of democracy, since the French and American revolutions, government interventions have steadily transformed the way we think about them (and the way we invest). Above all, Entrepreneurship and Institutions are downplayed today, while investors use Case Probability, and confuse the concepts of Money and Capital. This book offers a historical review of these interventions, to shed light on how we went from what was common sense to the status quo. Offering a sometimes technical analysis, the book examines a series of fundamental investment fallacies, their origins and how not to fall for them.

Housing Action Trust Community Development Poli...

As finite-life organisations, Housing Action Trusts (HATs) offer a unique opportunity for the analysis of Conservative urban policy. They were established in 1988 by the Conservative government as the cutting edge of urban policy. By the time the first HAT was established in Hull in 1991, the Conservative government had adopted a much more holistic and welfarist attitude to urban regeneration. Community involvement was seen to facilitate the regeneration process, an approach that led HATs to incorporate a range of social and economic policies into their development programmes. Although only six HATs were established, these employed a wide range of community development models, leading to varying success. An analysis of the different approaches offers valuable lessons for community development policy. The main lesson is that sustainability can only be achieved if organisations adopt a genuine participatory, bottom- up approach to community development.

Financial Crises Through History Compared With ...

The research goal of this text is the historical flow of the finances and their misbalances. The goal is directed towards the comparison of the financial crisis through history, for the reason that the past should serve as a lesson for future actions. On the other side, in the area where the globalization has a primary impact (as is the financial area) the effects from certain flows should be anticipated and a proper reaction should be prepared on time, according the lesson from above. The used research methods are statistically analyzed data and their comparison, tending to summarize one general result. Financial crises are usually long-term, and their scope is broader then that of the banking crises. Financial crises are of the long-term character with a collapse of the capital market which is long and protracted, with the occurrence of banking crises, and consequently with a reduction in output and employment and increases in government debt. Crucially, these moments are the same for countries with developed financial systems and for countries with underdeveloped financial systems. The difference in these two types of systems is the fiscal sector and the moment of imbalances.
