Research suggests that mobile phones can support science teaching and learning by providing authentic learning opportunities that connect the classroom with the outside world. Furthermore, both the functions and the attributes of mobile phones offer a variety of opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of science teaching and learning. Recognizing the potential offered by mobile phones, the focus of this book is on issues of pedagogy related to the use of mobile phones in science education in Sri Lanka, throughout the teaching cycle, from planning a lesson, implementation in the classroom to evaluation and reflection. The functions and attributes of mobile phones that are useful during the teaching cycle of science lessons and how they can be complemented by integrating mobile phones with ICT based tools are discussed. Three conceptual frameworks that describe teacher s pedagogical practices involving mobile phones during planning, implementation and evaluation and reflection stages of a science lesson based on two well-known theories in pedagogy, Shulman s pedagogical reasoning model and Alexander s conceptual framework for educational practice are also presented.

The Stories We Tell

As a cultural entrepreneur, I have always been fascinated by the complex nature of entrepreneurs and stories told about them. This work made me recognize an important lesson in life which is highly relevant for cultural entrepreneurs and organizations. The 'lesson' is the following: We cannot live the story of others and it is not an option to use successful recipes from the past. The only way to realize our goals is to discover our personal path, our unique journey. Everybody has a personal story to tell: a special, distinctive history that distinguishes us, humans from each other. During my research I came to realize that the story of a personal journey is really similar to the life cycle and challenges of organizations. If cultural entrepreneurs and people working in the cultural sector were able to learn from continuously occurring patterns in life - whether it is a business, private or social event - and 'read' behind stories emerging in everyday situations, it could already create the knowledge and space that we need to cope with the challenges of the 21th century.

The unit guides developed by the author is provided as examples of how an inquiry - based on science curriculum might be implemented in kindergarten classrooms. I offer project for teaching life cycle of silkworm to kindergarten children according to the program based on observation of life cycle silkworm, the examples used in this project are meant guides that teachers can modify, adapt, and extend to suit their needs and those of their children. The life cycle of silkworm is 62 days approximately. This silkworm is especially well suited for classroom study. It is small and brightly colored, will accept one kind of food. Is found worldwide, and undergoes complete metamorphosis in a relatively short time. The main objective of the unit is to introduce young children to the concept of life cycles by using one organism as example children also learn scientific vocabulary. The first eight lessons focus on caterpillar and cocoon stages of the silkworm. Children begin their study of these two stages by sharing their prior knowledge of caterpillars and then as, a pre -assessment exercise, they draw what they think a caterpillar looks like. In lesson 2, they learn about caterpillars'

Africa is replete with examples of short term donor funded programmes. They are easily set up, are frequently reviewed, and once they reach their life cycle, they fold up. Success of such programmes is couched in terms that ordinary people least understand. To dig out success factors this book reports on a programme that was well intended but failed to live up to expectation.A fairly complex body of literature from the world is marshalled to undergird the case study. Specifically, the book addresses four factors influencing e-learning and mentoring programmes in Workplace English scenarios as follows: 1. The degree of familiarity with all aspects of the programme shared by material writers, tutors, mentors and assessors 2.The quality of the relationship established between mentor and learner 3.The degree of motivation the learner feels both before and during mentoring 4.The participants computer efficacy. If there is any lesson to be learnt from this book, such a lesson will be useful to Workplace English learners, teachers, mentors, e- learning material designers, project experts, universities, governments, aid organizations and NGOs in Africa and the world.

Saxon (Teaching Method)

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Saxon math, developed by John Saxon, is a teaching method for incremental learning of mathematics. It involves teaching a new mathematical concept every day and constantly reviewing old concepts. Early editions were deprecated for providing very few opportunities to practice the new material before plunging into a review of all previous material. Newer editions typically split the day's work evenly between practicing the new material and reviewing old material. Its primary strength is in a steady review of all previous material, which is especially important to students who struggle with retaining the math they previously learned. In all books before Algebra 1/2 (the equivalent of a Pre-Algebra book), the book is designed for the student to complete assorted mental math problems, learn a new mathematical concept, practice problems relating to that lesson, and solve a varied number of problems which include what the students learned today and in select previous lessons -- all for one day's class. This daily cycle is interrupted for tests and additional topics.

The Use Of Cbi In The Teaching Of Quadratic Fun...

The study examined the use of Computer-Based Instruction (CBI) in mathematics, to find out if the Computer-Based Instruction has any comparative advantage over the usual traditional classroom teacher presentation in terms of students achievement in Mathematics. What actually encouraged this study was that, even though the learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the use of its tools have been incorporated into the curriculum of the basic and second cycle institutions in Ghana to enhance teaching and learning, it is mostly the ICT teachers who use these tools in their lesson presentations. The other subject teachers continue to use the old conventional or traditional chalk-board presentation. The study had a population of 80 students from the two different schools forming two groups, experimental and control. The experimental group used the course ware while the control went through the conventional teacher presentation. The quasi-experimental design was used for the study. The students were pre-tested to ascertain their equivalence in achievement and were also post-tested after the interventions.
