Learn Arabic - New ways to proficiency in ArabicVocabulary and grammar are based on frequency analysis and communication requirements. The original texts were selected from various fields such as history, society, religion, politics, sports, science and culture. This course is not about teaching what is rare and unnecessary, but rather focuses the fundamental aspects of communication.Common Arabic linguistic terminology is used throughout the book enabling students to enroll in language courses in the Arab world and exploit other Arabic language sources.Students will learn how to master different situations of communication. In addition, cultural, religious and historical information is conveyed in order to achieve cultural competence.Special attention is given to repetitive and recurring expressions of both the written and spoken language, such as greetings, wishes, addresses, introductions, feelings, apologies as well as proverbs and stereotypical phrases.Since no one speaks Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) as native language and communication is strongly influenced by local dialects, students must be proficient in comprehending expressions, phrases and entire conversations in local dialects. Thus, this textbook follows a new approach of incorporating Arabic dialects. Starting with lesson 4 all conversational texts are recorded in MSA as well as the dialects of four main regions: A. Iraq / Gulf / Arabian Peninsula B. Syria / Lebanon / Palestine C. Egypt D. Maghreb While maintaining the original content, special features of the respective dialect are incorporated in order to express the content adequately. Gradually, students learn to follow conversations in the dialect. However, it is not intended that students will actively speak any Arabic dialect.Using this textbook enables the student to reach Level A2 after finishing lesson 12 and Levels B1 - B2 after lesson 24 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This compares to the Novice High and Intermediate Mid-level according to the rating scale of the American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL)

Megan is a 13-year-old teenage girl who realizes that she has psychic powers that others do not have. At first, she tried to talk to her mother about them, but with disastrous consequences, so she learned to keep quiet about them. However, some people do offer to help, and an animal showed a special friendship, but they were not "alive" in the normal sense of the word. They had passed on.Megan has three such friends: Wacinhinsha, her spirit guide, who had been Sioux in his last life on Earth; her maternal grandfather, Gramps; and a huge Siberian tiger called Grrr. Wacinhinsha is extremely knowledgeable in all things spiritual, psychic, and paranormal; her grandfather is a novice "dead person"; and Grrr can only speak Tiger, as one might imagine, and most of that, of course, is unintelligible to humans. In this audiobook, one summer’s day during the school holidays, Megan and Jane decide to go cycling in the countryside. They stop for lunch in a village en route, and Jane gets her first lesson in seeing and touching Grrr, Megan’s friendly ghost Siberian tiger. After resting, they get back underway on the second half of their circular journey. Suddenly, they come across an injured cyclist and get him to hospital. The grateful boy and his parents want to thank Megan and Jane, and a long friendship ensues, beginning with riding lessons on Will’s family’s farm. It leads to great benefits for the two girls, and Megan’s knowledge expands when she meets her mount, and later when her spirit guide answers her questions. 1. Language: English. Teaching for Quality Learning at University

Foreword to the first edition: "This book is an exceptional introduction to some difficult ideas. It is full of downright good advice for every academic who wants to do something practical to improve his or hers students' learning." Paul Ramsden, Brisbane, Australia Endorsements for the fourth edition: "Biggs and Tang present a unified view of university teaching that is both grounded in research and theory and replete with guidance for novice and expert instructors. The book will inspire, challenge, unsettle, and in places annoy and even infuriate its readers, but it will succeed in helping them think about how high quality teaching can contribute to high quality learning." John Kirby, Queens University, Ontario, Canada "For those teaching in schools and universities this book provides a framework that can be used to guide teaching from thinking about what a program, topic, lesson or lecture should be about, to the execution of the teaching and reflection on the outcomes. The guiding framework emerges from a sound conceptual analysis of the how the interaction between teacher and student can be organised to result in learning that enables students to approach the levels of understanding and problem solving that we hope will emerge from our teaching." Mike Lawson, School of Education, Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia This best-selling book explains the concept of constructive alignment used in implementing outcomes-based education. Constructive alignment identifies the desired learning outcomes and helps teachers design the teaching and learning activities that will help students to achieve those outcomes, and to assess how well those outcomes have been achieved. Each chapter includes tasks that offer a 'how-to' manual to implement constructive alignment in your own teaching practices. This new edition draws on the authors' experience of consulting on the implementation of constructive alignment in Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland and Malaysia including a wider range of disciplines and teaching contexts. There is also a new section on the evaluation of constructive alignment, which is now used worldwide as a framework for good teaching and assessment, as it has been shown to: Assist university teachers who wish to improve the quality of their own teaching, their students' learning and their assessment of learning outcomes Aid staff developers in providing support for departments in line with institutional policies Provide a framework for administrators interested in quality assurance and enhancement of teaching across the whole universityThe authors have also included useful web links to further material. Teaching for Quality Learning at University will be of particular interest to teachers, staff developers and administrators.
