Destry Caldbeck, smarting from being jilted at the altar, travels to Ireland on what was supposed to be her honeymoon. While visiting Dowth Mound, an ancient Neolithic site outside of Dublin, she encounters a group of students and their instructor. Dr. Conor Daderga is everything an Irishman should be; enormous, muscular, red-headed, and dead sexy. He's also loud, booming, animated, and brilliant. Destry goes exploring the mound while listening to Dr. Daderga's lesson to his students in the background. Dowth is thought by scholars to be a burial mound and while nosing in the ancient chambers, Destry experiences ghostly voices from ages past. Rushing from the mound, she runs straight into Dr. Daderga. Conor, having seen the gorgeous American with the bright eyes when she first arrived at the mound, is thrilled to have a chance encounter with her. Destry and Conor share a moment of complete, utter attraction before ancient incantations and ghostly visitations begin to lend clues to their past lives as an ancient king and queen, cruelly separated by an evil wizard. Soon, they find themselves caught up in a maelstrom of time shifts, landing them back in the Dark Ages of Ireland's history where they discover a high king's destiny. Share the adventure. 1. Ed Catmull's Creativity, Inc.: A 30-Minute Inst...

With Instaread Summaries, you can get the summary of a book in 30 minutes or less. We read every chapter, summarize and analyze it for your convenience. This is an Instaread Summary of Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull. Below is a preview of the earlier sections of the summary: Chapter 1 - Every Sunday, as a kid, Catmull watched on TV The Wonderful World of Disney, where Disney explained how they made their animations and incorporated technological breakthroughs into their work. One day, Catmull had a life-changing realization: A good animation was measured by whether or not the character on the screen made you believe it was a thinking being. He decided he wanted to become an animator and create emotional characters. Catmull graduated with a double major in Physics and Computer Science from the University of Utah. In his graduate program, he met Professor Ivan Sutherland, a pioneer in computer graphics and director of the computer graphics program. The program was funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), the creators of the first computer network, ARPANET, which would later evolve into the Internet. ARPA was developed as a response to the threat of the Soviet Sputnik satellite, the first of its kind. The U.S. felt threatened by Soviet technological advancements and they developed ARPA to stay up with the Soviets. To Catmull, the lesson to be learned from this was when the competition gets smart, you need to get smarter. Catmull found enormous inspiration in the computer graphics program, not only from the technology he was discovering but also from his fellow students. The collaborative and creative atmosphere he experienced there was something he later tried to emulate at Pixar. In 1972, Catmull made his first animated film, a digitized model of his left hand. Hand became a reference for state-of-the-art computer animation. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Gonzo Shimura. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/023237/bk_acx0_023237_sample.mp3. From Ed Catmull, co-founder (with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter) of Pixar Animation Studios, the Academy Award - winning studio behind Inside Out and Toy Story, comes an incisive book about creativity in business and leadership - sure to appeal to listeners of Daniel Pink, Tom Peters, and Chip and Dan Heath. Fast Company raves that Creativity, Inc. "just might be the most thoughtful management book ever". Creativity, Inc. is a book for managers who want to lead their employees to new heights, a manual for anyone who strives for originality, and the first-ever, all-access trip into the nerve center of Pixar Animation - into the meetings, postmortems, and "Braintrust" sessions where some of the most successful films in history are made. It is, at heart, a book about how to build a creative culture - but it is also, as Pixar co-founder and president Ed Catmull writes, "an expression of the ideas that I believe make the best in us possible". For nearly 20 years, Pixar has dominated the world of animation, producing such beloved films as the Toy Story trilogy, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Up, WALL-E, and Inside Out, which have gone on to set box-office records and garner 30 Academy Awards. The joyousness of the storytelling, the inventive plots, the emotional authenticity: In some ways, Pixar movies are an object lesson in what creativity really is. Here, in this book, Catmull reveals the ideals and techniques that have made Pixar so widely admired - and so profitable. As a young man, Ed Catmull had a dream: to make the first computer-animated movie. He nurtured that dream as a PhD student at the University of Utah, where many computer science pioneers got their start, and then forged a partnership with George Lucas that led, indirectly, to his founding Pixar with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter in 1986. Nine years later, Toy Story was released, changing an 1. Language: English. Narrator: Laura Holloway. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/068924/bk_acx0_068924_sample.mp3.
