Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, grade: bestanden, University of Freiburg (Anglistik/Amerikanistik), language: English, abstract: When it comes to teaching English Pronunciation in the classroom a lot of teachers feel reluctant. The reasons might be a lack of instruction during their own studies of English or even a personal struggle with the topic because of its complexity and the fact that they are non-native speakers of English. Finding a good introductory lesson that evolves around one of the topics of pronunciation seems to be rather challenging. That might be because although a lot of the textbooks for learners of English offer some small exercises on pronunciation they do provide teachers with enough material to add-on to the units or to create a whole lesson. So even nowadays to find an English learners classroom where pronunciation is taught in on a regular basis is a wishful thinking. Teachers have be aware of the fact that exercises on sounds, word and sentence stress, intonation and connected speech (elision and liaison) need to be part of the English lesson in order to prepare their students for the actual use of the target language in the real world without the protecting walls of the classroom. The fact that pronunciation is a part of language acquisition has long been neglected. It was seen as the finishing touch of learning English and therefore stood at the far end of the line. If students were highly motivated they went abroad or looked for a tandem partner to learn how to speak good English. But as prospective teachers me know of the importance of pronunciation and that students of the English language need to be introduced to its rules right from the beginning of the learning process. To speak an understandable and fluent English is a great part of mastering the language and therefore must not be neglected. Therefore, pronunciation is a highly important aspect of teaching English not just since it is part of the basic criteria needed to successfully communicate with native speakers of the but also to round off the skill of knowing English.

In our unit, students will simulate the creation of their own rock band. Students will create the individual members of the band, as well as assume the roles of Marketing Director, Newspaper Reporter, and Accountant. Student assignments include the creation of a band logo, member biographies, tour poster and newspaper review. Our unit places an emphasis on communication skills through group work, and creative and critical thinking. Our unit is intended to promote both intuitive and imaginative thought. This Music lesson provides a teacher and student section with a variety of activities, student self-evaluation and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.

Features a comprehensive treatment on the use of modeling and simulation support for system of systems engineering as well as best practices in the industry Modeling and Simulation Support for System of Systems Engineering Applications provides a comprehensive overview of the underlying theory, methods, and solutions in modeling and simulation support for system of systems engineering. Highlighting plentiful multidisciplinary applications of modeling and simulation, the book addresses the criteria and challenges found within the field. Beginning with a foundation of concepts, terms, and categories, the book introduces a theoretical and generalized approach to system of systems engineering, and presents real-world applications via case studies and examples. A unified approach is maintained in an effort to understand the complexity of a single system as well as the context among other proximate systems. In addition, the book features: Cutting edge coverage of modeling and simulation within the field of system of systems, including transportation, system health management, space mission analysis, systems engineering methodology, and energy State-of-the-art advances within multiple domains to instantiate theoretic insights, applicable methods, and lessons learned from real-world applications of modeling and simulation The challenges of system of systems engineering using a systematic and holistic approach Key concepts, terms, and activities to provide a comprehensive, unified, and concise representation of the field A collection of chapters written by over 40 recognized international experts from academia, government, and industry A research agenda derived from the contribution of experts that guides scholars and researchers towards open questions Modeling and Simulation Support for System of Systems Engineering Applications is an ideal reference and resource for academics and practitioners in operations research, engineering, statistics, mathematics, modeling and simulation, and computer science. The book is also an excellent course book for graduate and PhD-level courses in modeling and simulation, engineering, and computer science. Larry B. Rainey, PhD, is Founder and Senior Partner at Integrity Systems and Solutions, LLC, a consulting firm that specializes in modeling and simulation within missile defense and space operations domains. With more than 20 years of systems engineering experience, Dr. Rainey has also worked for the Missile Defense Agency and other U.S. Department of Defense organizations that address system of systems challenges. Andreas Tolk, PhD, is Chief Scientist of SimIS Inc., which provides modeling and simulation services, enterprise architecture knowledge, and integration solutions to its customers. Dr. Tolk is also Adjunct Professor in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering of Old Dominion University as well as the author of Engineering Principles of Combat Modeling and Distributed Simulation , which is published by Wiley.

This book introduces the Process for Attack Simulation & Threat Analysis (PASTA) threat modeling methodology. It provides an introduction to various types of application threat modeling and introduces a risk-centric methodology aimed at applying security countermeasures that are commensurate to the possible impact that could be sustained from defined threat models, vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and attack patterns. This book describes how to apply application threat modeling as an advanced preventive form of security. The authors discuss the methodologies, tools, and case studies of successful application threat modeling techniques. Chapter 1 provides an overview of threat modeling, while Chapter 2 describes the objectives and benefits of threat modeling. Chapter 3 focuses on existing threat modeling approaches, and Chapter 4 discusses integrating threat modeling within the different types of Software Development Lifecycles (SDLCs). Threat modeling and risk management is the focus of Chapter 5. Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 examine Process for Attack Simulation and Threat Analysis (PASTA). Finally, Chapter 8 shows how to use the PASTA risk-centric threat modeling process to analyze the risks of specific threat agents targeting web applications. This chapter focuses specifically on the web application assets that include customers confidential data and business critical functionality that the web application provides. • Provides a detailed walkthrough of the PASTA methodology alongside software development activities, normally conducted via a standard SDLC process • Offers precise steps to take when combating threats to businesses • Examines real-life data breach incidents and lessons for risk management Risk Centric Threat Modeling: Process for Attack Simulation and Threat Analysis is a resource for software developers, architects, technical risk managers, and seasoned security professionals. Tony UcedaVélez is CEO at VerSprite, an Atlanta based security services firm assisting global MNCs on various areas of cyber security, secure software development, threat modeling and security risk management. Tony has worked and led teams in the areas of application security, penetration testing, security architecture, and technical risk management for various organizations in Utility, Banking, Government, Retail, Healthcare, and Information Services. Marco M Morana serves as Senior Vice President-Application Security Architect for CitiGroup, where he is responsible for managing the architecture risk analysis and threat modeling program globally and leads global initiatives to mitigate risks of emerging cyber-threats targeting web applications of institutional clients. Marco has designed and developed business critical security software products for several Fortune 500 companies, and also for NASA.
